A Storm...

Last week we had strong straight-line winds in the night, and then no electricity for 18 hours.

We lost the top of one of the Oak trees behind the house, and part of another one in the pasture.  Plus a LOT of leaves and smaller branches.  The yard was a mess!

Most of the plants in the garden were all leaning.  (They eventually straightened up though.)
Being without electricity makes it very obvious how dependent we are on it.
We were very thankful when it came back on!

Last week was VBS at our church.  Ana and I helped with the classes and Amy took pictures.  This is the 3rd year we've helped with it and it was my favorite year!  We didn't use the usual VBS curriculum, but instead Aunt Linda Sue came up with her own - which was much better! The theme was cowboys/the west and we studied the life of Joseph in the Bible. We also had all the children do everything together instead of breaking them into classes by age.  (With the exception of the Bible memory time/ Q+A.)  This worked out SO well!!

Lessons around the "campfire" that Mom made.

Ana playing the guitar for "A Christian Cowboy" - the song we sang each day.  She did a great job!
 Singing away!

The last day we had an ice cream social.

I enjoyed working with Pastor's daughter Merrilyn! (picture taken by Amy)

She brought her dog "Duggie" along a few times.

Everyone all together!  (Picture from Amy.)

Only Because

"We can know God only because He first knew us,
just as we choose Him only because He first chose us,
and we love Him only because He first loved us."
- John MacArthur

The Running Wild Race!!!

This past Saturday was the Running Wild race at Maplewood State Park.

We girls loved being volunteers!!  :-)

There were a LOT of people there of all ages, and a few dogs as this Great Dane!

Father and son ready to go!

The children's race was fun - they were all excited and eager to run!

 And they are off!!!!
Meanwhile, the adults got ready for the 1 mile race and the 7K race.
Waiting for the races to start....
..and once they were off I headed out on the trail for my main "job": photographing the runners of the 7K as
they ran by.

Most people were quite tired by the time they got to where I was, but a few had the energy for a smile!

These are the water break guys who gave me a ride to and from my "post" along the trail. (I'm very thankful I didn't have to walk all the way out there!)

They also kindly pointed out that I had set up my camera right next to a bunch of Poison Ivy.  Oops!

What a beautiful day we had, it was not too hot, there were no was perfect!  Thank you Lord!!

Dad's Birthday!

We hiked up Inspiration Peak - and had the whole place to ourselves! :-)  It was a beautiful day!

 View from the top.
I find this picture rather funny.  The two tallest members of the family are standing on the bench to get a better view! =D

When we got home Ana made Enchiladas and Coleslaw - what Dad requested for his birthday meal.

I made Coconut Cake, which is one of his favorites! Full of coconut and walnuts and covered with cream cheese frosting.  Yum!
